More about Josephine Sheppard...

Who is Josephine Sheppard?

Josephine Sheppard is the Founder and CEO of Integrative Therapies & Consulting, an expanding private practice that provides online and in-person services, products, and programs. She is the creator of the Live in AAWE™ Approach – an acronym for the art of allowing well-being every day, embodying soulful living and wisdom. She is a strong believer in an integrative lifestyle where spirituality, mental, physical, and emotional health, and wellness are a conscious means – not an occasional method used to overcome difficulties and perceived obstacles.

She has worked in the health and wellness industry, human services, hospitality, and nursing and personal care services. She’s attained numerous certifications from Massage Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki Master-Teacher, and Jin Shin Acupressure that may be found listed on her website, along with having a Diploma in Fitness and Nutrition, Natural Health Consulting, and a Doctorate in Religious Counseling.

Josephine is a regular practitioner of introspection, spiritual journeying, mindfulness, and meditation, and is a continual student of life. She's had three near-death experiences (NDEs), various spiritually transformative life experiences (STEs), and as mentioned above, a clear memory of being nonphysical consciousness before her birth into this lifetime.

She began the journey of self-realization and development in 1991. The beginning of her self-employment career in private practice began on September 30, 1994. Her business evolved in its services and methodologies over time into an integrative approach beginning in 1998. In 2019, her business was rebranded into the "Live in AAWE™" Approach - an acronym for living in the art of wellbeing every day, in some way. Josephine has innately implemented her natural abilities as an empath and intuitiveness in working with her clients, friends, and family because it is part of what defines her as a person and individual.

Josephine is culturally diverse and brings real-life experience into her practice. She has worked with highly sensitive individuals - both men and women, LGBTQ and heterosexual individuals. Josephine has facilitated Native American women's sober living group sessions and worked with individuals of various philosophical and religious backgrounds.

Her spiritual principles and practices are deeply interwoven in the application of her services, alongside her personal and professional experience. They may be considered a reflection of both, her Omnist approach to the various belief systems and philosophies. As well as some of the rich cultural heritage and spiritual practices that may be associated with the blend of her ethnic and racial background.

Josephine has been an ordained Nondenominational Minister since October 2019, through the Universal Life Church (ULC), headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Her mission as a Minister through ULC is to encourage and support individual choice in spiritual practice and expression, religious freedom, and peaceful coexistence of faith traditions. Josephine's belief in treating others as we wish to be treated (being fair, kind, and just); and everyone having the freedom to practice whatever religion or philosophy resonates with them - as long as their actions do not infringe upon the rights or freedoms of others and are lawful, aligned well with the mission and tenents that ULC is based upon. As an ordained Minister, she may legally perform blessings, weddings, memorials, etc. - "granted all the rights and privileges afforded to clergy members of other faiths." To obtain Ministerial or Pastoral Care services through Josephine, please use the contact form below for inquiries. What inspired you to start your business?

"Born into a family that has all been affected by childhood trauma, and having highly intuitive abilities, I have been naturally drawn to studies that support both mental and emotional well-being, as well as spiritual practices and scientifically proven methods that uniquely tie together. Reducing external and internal suffering and learning the “how” has been a lifelong passion and driving force behind the creation of the methods, services, talks, and writings I offer.

One of the gifts I believe endowed upon me from Infinite intelligence is having a memory as a nonphysical consciousness before birth. This awareness has allowed me to help others understand our innate spiritual existence and the value of being a spiritual being and having a [self-aware] human experience. The wisdom that is accessible to me from a nonphysical consciousness perspective, the added knowledge and wisdom gained through the living of life, training, and education, and insights from near-death experiences provide the wherewithal to teach others how to merge the human and spiritual perspectives to self-heal and become a better version of themselves through increasing conscious decision-making and living a soul-filled life (quality of life)."

What is the mission of your company?

"Supporting humanity in becoming a better version of ourselves through conscious evolution, improving our worldview and decision-making towards all life and our planet.  We’re focused on helping people consciously create a better version of themselves in mind, body, and spirit."

What is an important life lesson you’ve learned thus far that you would share with others?

"Don’t be afraid of difficult emotions. Much of society and our culture has taught us to separate ourselves from our emotions, which are an important factor in functioning in day-to-day events, and being able to effectively move through the most challenging of circumstances that will happen in life. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. You may need to be selective with whom to reach out to, but ultimately, we’re all in this [Universe] together. And yes, sometimes, it’s asking yourself how you can help yourself in a way that best serves you, now. Self-compassion is just as important as being compassionate, merciful, and understanding of others."

Why do you do what you do?

"According to the National Institutes of Health, over 70% of respondents [to the research conducted] reported a traumatic event, and 30.5% were exposed to four or more. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing reported that “70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. That's 223.4 million people. More than 33% of youths exposed to community violence will experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a very severe reaction to traumatic events.”

Now researchers estimate that more than 3% of people meet the criteria for complex trauma, also called complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), in the United States. Ever since people's responses to overwhelming experiences have been systematically explored, researchers have noted that trauma is stored in somatic memory and expressed as changes in the biological stress response. Research has indicated that the physical body stores emotional pain connected with highly stressful experiences and can be correlated to mental health and physical health issues.

Scientific experiments make it increasingly clear that even mere knowledge in the experimenter’s mind is sufficient to convert possibility to reality. The new scientific theory recognizes life’s spiritual dimension. The Galileo Commission is quoted saying, “Progress in theoretical physics during the past decade has led to a progressively more unified understanding of the laws of nature, culminating in the recent discovery of completely unified field theories based on superstrings. These theories identify a single universal, unified field as the basis of all forms and phenomena in the universe.

At the same time, cutting-edge research in the field of neuroscience has revealed the existence of a ‘unified field of consciousness’—a fourth major state of human consciousness, which is physiologically and subjectively distinct from waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. In this state, a.k.a. *Samādhi, or a state of meditative consciousness, the threefold structure of waking experience—the observer, the observed, and the process of observation—are united in one indivisible wholeness of pure consciousness.” (*Samādhi, in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and yogic schools, is a state of meditative consciousness.)

Now is the time to actively, and deliberately, merge our greater awareness and insight with our mind-body conscious experience, and become more of the human “being” that we intend to be. Which incorporates the Embodiment process, state of meditative consciousness, and contemporary-style shamanic journeying or spiritual-based behavioral techniques integratively utilized through the Live in AAWE Approach at Integrative Therapies & Consulting. To not do so is to allow ourselves to keep creating more suffering for us, and our world. Evolution is a forward motion, not stagnation or doing what we’ve always done just because it’s familiar, or what others are doing."

Where do you go for inspiration?

"I’m inspired by my clients, associates, life experiences, and ongoing studies and research. I learn as I teach and consider myself a student of life.

It is abundantly clear that the challenges people face today are also influenced by the challenges they've lived in their past and how it has been internally processed. My own life experiences have taught me the value of timing, right relations, connection to a Higher Power of one's understanding, and self-advocacy, as well as being a genuine advocate for others while teaching them how to do so for themselves.

I believe the insight, wisdom, and maturity that comes with exposure to life, combined with professional experience, education, and allowing oneself to be resourced and "sourced" by Infinite Intelligence is equally of value - even though that may not be something most can qualify on a resume. It's quantifiable through the phenomenon of nature, both physical and spiritual. Which means measurable by both, what we can see, and what we can't see through the physical eyes - just like the air we breathe. That in and of itself, when we sit in stillness, is inspirational - I believe."
